VILLA WINDSOR, PARIS

A CLIMATIC GARDEN PAVILION

JARDINS, JARDIN · MAY 2027
A climatic garden pavilion by NO ARCHITECTURE for Villa Windsor, tuned to the light, airflow and comfort of its site, for Jardins, jardin, 25–30 May 2027.

The pavilion stands in the park of Villa Windsor in the Bois de Boulogne, Paris. Built in 1928–29 by architect Roger Bouvard, the house was the Paris home of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor for more than thirty years. Today the estate belongs to the City of Paris and is entrusted to the Fondation Mansart; since 2024 its park has hosted Jardins, jardin. The pavilion extends the house’s hospitality into the garden.

A canopy of timber petals. Square cross-laminated timber canopies, each carried on its own glulam column, turn and overlap to make a single shaded garden room. As at Flower House, each canopy is complete in itself; together they frame light, air and gathering. Gaps between the plates admit dappled light and let warm air escape.

Prefabricated and bolted, the pavilion is demountable and designed for a life beyond the festival: reusable at future locations, or given a new life elsewhere.
