EACH PIECE OF FURNITURE ALLOWS ANYONE TO BE IN PERFECT HARMONY WITH THE SURROUNDING WILDERNESS
The Devil Lake House sits on a ridgeline between trees next to protected Devil Lake in Ontario. Just as each pavilion was designed as a device to frame the surrounding nature, each piece of furniture allows anyone to be in perfect harmony with the surrounding wilderness. The garden chair, side table, dining table, bench, day bed all made with a simple construction, locally made by hand out of cedar that will naturally grey over time. Through their clarity, each piece of furniture speaks to the horizontality of the framed landscape and its horizon. They not only frame nature through use, allowing one to sit and comfortably view the landscape, but as objects they allow the infrastructure of living and sleeping to disappear to highlight human activity.
