MIES CROWN HALL AMERICAS PRIZE
COURTYARD HOUSE NOMINATED FOR MCHAP.EMERGE
2016
Courtyard House was nominated for the 2016 MCHAP.emerge, the Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize for emerging practice, administered by the Illinois Institute of Technology. The nomination credits Andrew Heid / NO ARCHITECTURE as primary author, with WBS Construction (general contractor), Jerome Madden (structural engineer) and Aurora Landscape (landscape designer), for clients Ted and Andrea Heid. The jury text describes a house that excavates into the hillside, burying half of its volume below ground while cantilevering toward views of the field, pond and river, with a faceted glass courtyard bringing light and air deep into the plan.
