ANDREW HEID NOMINATED FOR THE WHEELWRIGHT PRIZE
2015
Andrew Heid was nominated for the 2015 Wheelwright Prize, Harvard GSD’s travelling research fellowship for early-career architects, with the proposal “From Collective Form to Ecological Urbanism: Towards Climate Resilient Housing.” Drawing on vernacular settlements such as the medina in Morocco, the Ksar Tissergate in the Drâa valley, the hutongs of Beijing and the stepped terraces of Hydra, the research set out to document, 3D-scan and model clustered housing across a wide range of climates and cultures, analysing density, solar access and ventilation to find patterns for compact, naturally cooled housing in warming cities. The research later became the exhibition “From Collective Form to Ecological Urbanism” at the 2015 Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism/Architecture in Shenzhen.
