ARCHITECTURAL RECORD
COURTYARD HOUSE IN “FEATURED HOUSES”
JULY 2014
Architectural Record presents Courtyard House in its “Featured Houses” series: a single-story glazed house for a multigenerational family, set on a hillside above protected wetlands and the Pudding River in Aurora, Oregon. An oblong, faceted courtyard brings light and planting into the living and dining areas, two L-shaped cores hold the main bedroom and the kitchen, and a terrace cantilevers over the riverbank. Steel columns and glulam beams frame the house over a polished concrete slab set partly into the hill.
