COURTYARD HOUSE IN “GLASHAUS AM PUDDING”

JULY–AUGUST 2014
AD Germany’s “Glashaus am Pudding” (July–August 2014) profiles Courtyard House, Andrew Heid’s first building and the debut of NO ARCHITECTURE, founded in 2009 after his years with OMA in New York and Rotterdam. Designed for his newly retired parents, Andrea and Ted, as a home to grow old in, the single-story house sits half an hour from Portland and centers on a glazed courtyard that makes nature the heart of the living space. Two L-shaped walls are the only fixed divisions: by day the house works as an open loft, and at night hidden panels and doors close off the bedrooms. At about 250 square meters it is roughly a third the size of neighboring houses, yet feels far more generous.
