Forest City

To complement Qianhai Bay’s master plan, the project focuses on connecting mountains to sea, and city to harbor. In so doing, Forest City brings urban infrastructure and porosity on site by utilizing the skyline of the Nanshan Mountains and Qianhai to create the three-dimensional massing. The result is a variegated ‘forest’ of lifted towers stepped and shifted in multiple directions, optimized for view, self-shading, and natural ventilation. In this way we reimagine urban luxury as a continuous horizontal and vertical garden in the city. The 3-dimensional gardens are captured by an extensive topography of balconies and terraces. We redefine contemporary luxury by introducing intimacy, articulation, and difference with every apartment type, which all benefit from four exterior exposures, multiple corner rooms, and private lifts. We adjust a 24-hour urban lifestyle by creating lush gardens, courtyards, and alleyways that connect and filter the urban infrastructure, while providing natural shading and passive cooling. The raised garden plinth creates a buffering distance from the frenetic rhythms of urban life. In contrast to traditional urban residential developments, our proposal sponsors communication and connection while preserving privacy and intimacy.
